WA PICA Attracts Record Crowd - 27/8/2007

This year's Western Australian Printing Industries Craftsmanship Awards (PICA) drew their biggest crowd ever. Themed  on the Roman Empire, the Printing Empire attracted the industry's who's who to a spectacularly colourful event at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre for the presentation of 107 awards in 36 categories.

Guests were seated in ancient splendour among decorated tables reminiscent of opulent times from the pages of history. The opulence continued with the presentation of 35 Gold, 41 Silver and 31 Bronze PICA awards presented to 32 companies.

"It was a hoot," said Printing Industries WA General Manger, Paul Nieuwhof . "We had a record 490 people attend and a high level of entries.

"It all went very well and in the past couple of days we have had nothing but accolades from people saying how great it was," he said.

The MC combination of John McNaught & Dixie Marshall provided the crowd with a professional and upbeat awards presentation. Printing Industries National President Peter Lane spoke to the crowd and welcomed everyone to a night of excellence and celebration of the industry.

As with previous years Western Australian company Scott Print walked away with the most number of awards - 16 in total -  5 Gold, 6 Silver and 5 Bronze. Advance Press took home 9 awards - 5 Gold, 1 Silver and 3 Bronze.

Andrew Neale, General Manager Scott Print said, "To follow on from last year's fantastic result is a great achievement for Scott Print.

"These Awards are testimony to the skill, dedication, and commitment of all the staff at Scott Print and could not have been achieved without the support of all our suppliers."

100% Kylie entertainment the crowd, particularly the menfolk, with a Kylie Minogue song and dance show. The Ladies were also well catered for via the accompanying male dancers.

The night also hosted a number of  special industry awards including a Gold PICA awarded to Prism Grafix for Prism Grafix Calendar 2008 - Vintage Series. The Gold PICA has not been awarded in Western Australia for several years.
