Western Australia is celebrating after another very successful Printing Industries Craftsmanship Awards that attracted 372 entries from 50 companies and a record 473 people for the presentation dinner.
A total of 36 Gold, 39 Silver and 36 Bronze PICAs were handed out to 33 companies.
Printing Industries President, Mr Graham Pittaway delivered a message of sustainability in the heavily rain forest themed event to the gathered sponsors, printers designers and many others. He encouraged people to participate in environmental programs like Green Stamp and urged them to promote print to their customers as a sustainable and highly effective means of marketing and communicating.
Printing Industries National President, Mr Peter Lane spoke briefly on the necessity for adding greater value for customer and not standing still in changing industry conditions.
Representing PaperlinX, Chris Ager spoke about the Forest Stewardship Council and its importance to the industry, the environment and the industries customers who are viewing their global social responsibilities in a very serious way. Roger Burrows from Australia Post finished off the presentation of awards and reminded the industry that Australia Post can provide them with the solutions they need for delivering to their customers.
Outstanding performers at this year’s PICAs were Scott Print with 5 Gold, Prism Grafix, Pilpel Print and Advance Press with 3 Golds each and Fast Finishing Services with 2 Golds.
First time winners included Shern Nguyen from S & T Graphic Design and Colour Print who was one very happy winner. James Carter from The Fabric Printer encouraged the Screen Printing industry to get on board with PICA and present the best of their industry sector to the rest of the industry.
The LIA presented the Apprentice of the Year Award which this year went to William Hammond,an apprentice at Plastafab.
PICA Chairman, Mr Des Williamson, gave a very special lead into the Printing Industry Recognition Award for 2006 and announced Mr Richard (Dick) Pilpel of Pilpel Print as this year’s recipient. Dick received a standing ovation and was toasted by the crowd.
"It was a well earned and appropriate award for a man who has shown such dedication to the printing industry," Mr Williamson said.
