What's on in Queensland?

Queensland PICA 2006 is underway with planning taking place. The event is scheduled for Friday 24 November 2006 with entries closing on 1 September. Call for Entries and Entry Forms will be mailed early July 2006.

Penalties for Employers Using Illegal Workers The Minister for Immigration has tabled legislation that will create penalties for employers who knowingly or recklessly employ illegal workers. Printing Industries will work with DIMA to ensure that all employers have access to clear and concise information about their obligations. New rules may come into force in January 2007.
Printing Industries Federal Budget Presentation Printing Industries Hagop Tchamkertenian will discuss the implications of the Federal Budget on the Australian Printing and related industries. Mr Tchamkertenian's discussion will include: Overview of the budget, Key Budget measures, Impact on printing industry and Economic forecasts and prospects. Government  Anti Print Stance
 
 Government Annual Report Anti-Print Stance Under Fire  

Printing Industries has slammed the Federal Government's support of a plan to remove the legal obligation for corporations to produce printed annual reports. "This is nothing more than a cynical exercise in shifting the print costs away from corporations and onto consumers," Printing Industries Association of Australia National President, Peter Lane said. NAB Tender Campaign
 
  NAB Campaign Progressing

Printing Industries' tender process campaign against the NAB is gaining momentum. Printing Industries CEO, Philip Andersen recently held a briefing meeting with a NSW Liberal member. The meeting was to discuss the NAB Print Tender and the industry's objections. Full Story.


The New Supervisor
 
  Supervisory training a hit with members.

Printing Industries has recently run two very popular New Supervisor training courses for members. The first was sold out within days leading us to schedule a second two weeks later which was also close to being sold out. The New Supervisor is a short (3 hours) evening course that aims to familiarise new or potential supervisors with key issues that they may face while being placed in charge of others for the first time. Prime Minister's Award
 
  Award Nominations Open

The 2006 Prime Minister's Awards for Excellence in Community Business Partnerships have been announced with nominations called from organisations across business and community sectors. Winners will be announced during National Community Business Partnership Week from 21 - 25 August 2006 with a national award presentation ceremony to be conducted in October. Members involved in collaborative arrangements are encouraged to nominate and be recognised for their community and social involvement.   News from Print Super

The cost of a comfortable retirement has increased by $1,000 to $46,192 pa. As of July 2006 if you wish to contribute more for retirement your super fund must have a RSE license. To date only 324 super funds have applied for the license. Did you know Printer Super received their license in November last year? Full Story.
