New health and safety laws 'not too onerous' (pdf - 141.1 kb) Printing Industries’ Employee Relations team recently delivered briefings to members in states (including the ACT) that have adopted the federal national model for workplace health and safety. As the remaining states and the Northern Territory eventually legislate their own versions of the federal model, the Employee Relations team will deliver appropriate briefings in those jurisdictions as well.

ACCI Warning on an OHS Scam (pdf - 115 kb) Members should be aware that the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) has issued a public warning notice relating to the conduct of Safety Compliance Pty Ltd. Safety Compliance Pty Ltd operates its business from Tweed Heads in NSW.

Fire Safety in the Workplace (pdf - 154.4 kb) With winter upon us, heaters and similar devices are again being used in most offices. Printing Industries would like to remind members of the following fire safety procedures and equipment checks so as to ensure everything is in proper working order in the event of a fire. It is recommended that members keep a log, electronic or hardcopy, of your actions.

Flu Vaccinations in the Workplace (pdf - 124.6 kb) In response to a number of queries regarding the recent circular; “The “H” in “OHS” – COLD AND FLU PREVENTION IN THE WORKPLACE”, Printing Industries would like to bring to Member’s attention the possibility of providing flu vaccinations to their employees.

Cold and Flu Prevention in the Workplace (pdf - 118.3 kb) Printing Industries would like to remind members with winter approaching, cold and flu season is already here. Employee illness costs businesses and can affect the long term health of employees. Printing Industries would like to remind members of some simple but medically proven steps that can be implemented in the workplace that will minimise the spread of colds and flu this winter.

Proposed Changes to NSW OHS Legislation (pdf - 58.1 kb) Members should note the NSW government has recently introduced two Bills for Parliamentary debate as the first step towards harmonising current NSW OHS legislation with the Federal governments’ model. It is expected that state adoption of the federal workplace health and safety model will result in a streamlining of obligations and compliance for businesses throughout Australia, regardless of location.
