Western Australian PICAs got off to a cracking start with the arrival of two men on horseback performing a whip show.

The Australian-themed awards night drew a solid crowd of 440 guests, and, according to Paul Nieuwhof, General Manager for Printing Industries, Western Australia, was a positive reflection of local printing.

"It was a very successful night and everyone enjoyed themselves," he said. "Judges were very pleased with the entries this year."

Aside from the horsemen, Bernard Cassell, managing director of CPI took centre stage with a speech on the industry's need to reinvent itself.

"Bernard gave a brief but hard-hitting presentation on the need for the industry to do more about our image," Nieuwhof said.
