Well wrapped industry careers - 27/7/2006 Vehicle wrapping is the latest innovation driving Australia’s signwriting industry and promoting careers in the printing and graphic arts industry. Students at the Queensland School of Printing and Graphic Arts (QSPGA) learned about the technique while one of Southbank Institute of Technology’s Toyota Camrys received a whole-body wrap during an industry-sponsored workshop earlier this month. QSPGA hosted the workshop in partnership with Queensland-based companies Vehicle Wrapping Solutions and Australian Graphic Supplies. Sean Dewar, a QSPGA teacher, said that the workshop was the first chance most of his students had to observe a vehicle wrap in progress. “They have been doing vehicle wraps overseas for several years, but it’s only arrived here very recently. “It has a lot of applications for industry. Companies with big fleets can use it to make their cars 24-hour marketing tools. Formula one racing teams are also starting to use it because of the weight advantages,” he said.
The Application of the material can normally be completed in a day, depending on size and complexity of both the design and the vehicle. The printing and application can be completed in as little as 2 - 3 days, however a minimum of 14 days notice is usually required. The material that is used has a life expectancy of 3 months to 10 years! “Enrolments have gone through the roof, which is a reflection of the strong position the Sign Industry finds itself in,” Mr Dewar said.
