PICA season kicks off in Tasmania - 12/8/2009

The awards season starts in Tasmania with the first PICAs for the year.

According to Ron Patterson, general manager of Printing Industries, Victoria and Tasmania, the awards night held in Hobart last week, was more proof of the quality and excellence in printing throughout Tasmania.

"It was a sensational night and very rewarding for a lot of local companies," he said.

"Tasmania is very clever in its use of printing and the judges were really happy with the quality; they believe it's improved out of sight in the last two years."

As usual, judging grew increasingly difficult as a result of the improvements in quality. While there were a number of categories that were not awarded a gold, Patterson believes that this only works to bring out the best in printers. "You don't give a gold to everybody," he said.

He is hopeful of Tasmania's chances in next year's National Print Awards. "We will be there and giving it a good shot."
