Prepress Plumbing Blues - 6/3/2006 Recently two Queensland members experienced preventable flooding to their premises when plumbing to film/plate processing equipment failed leaving a trail of disaster which halted business.
In both circumstances the incidents occurred over a long weekend thereby maximising damage and inconvenience. In one case increased water pressure caused valves to fail.
The increase in pressure occurred as it was the long weekend. Most nearby businesses had shut down and this in turn increased the pressure in the water mains. The pressure blew valves in the film processor and also caused diaphragms in the building's sprinkler system to fail.
It pays to ensure the isolating valves in permanently plumbed equipment are correctly engaged!
